About VENUS = VICS + VEND + PRIMA + ALBA:
Crystal Structure & Electron/Nuclear Density Visualization System + MEM analysis

The VENUS (Visualization of Electron/NUclear densities and Structures) system is developed by Dr. R. A. Dilanian and Dr. F. Izumi. It consists of VICS (VIsualization of Crystal Structure), VEND (Visualization of Electron/Nuclear Densities), PRIMA (PRactice Iterative MEM Analyses), and ALBA (After Le Bail Analysis).

VICS : ver. 5.6.1 & VEND : ver. 6.7.3

Here you can download the executable files of VICS and VEND for Linux.

The following environment was used to compile VENUS.

The non-commercial, non-supported version of Intel C++ Compiler ver. 7.1 was used to compile the source code.

Before executing VICS and VEND, OpenGL(including GLUT), GTK+-2.6.x (including GLib-2.6.x, ATK-1.9.x, Pango-1.8.x) and GLUI should be installed.
JasPer libraries were statically linked to executables, and you do not need to install it.

How to install the programs :

  1. Uncompress the package:
    tar jxvf vics-5.6.1-bin.tar.bz2
    tar jxvf vend-6.7.3-bin.tar.bz2
  2. copy VENUS where you want :
    cp VENUS /where/you/go/
  3. set the environment variable PATH to include /where/you/go/VENUS/bin directory,
    or
copy VENUS/bin/VEND and VENUS/bin/VICS to the directory where PATH points to.
  4. set the environment variable VENUS to point /where/you/go/VENUS/bin/ directory.
Please note that the last slash is required.
  5. if you have downloaded GTK+-2.6 and/or GLUI libraries, uncompress the package and set the environment variable LD_LIBRARY_PATH to /where/you/install/lib.

How to run the programs :

  1. Type VEND or VICS .
  2. Type executable name and filename what you want to open : e.g. VICS filename.ext

PRIMA : ver. 3.5.6

The precompiled version of PRIMA can be download from here, with the permission from Dr. F. Izumi. Intel FORTRAN compiler ver. 7.1 was used to compile the source code, and all libraries are linked with the option -static.

How to install the program:

  1. Move the compressed package to the directory in which you want to install the program:
    mv prima-3.5.6-bin.tar.bz2 /where/to/go
  2. Uncompress the package :
    tar jxvf prima-3.5.6-bin.tar.bz2
  3. Set the environment variable PATH to include /where/you/installed/VENUS/bin directory,
    or
copy VENUS/bin/PRIMA to the directory where PATH points to.
  4. Set the environment variable PRIMA to point /where/you/installed/VENUS/bin/ directory.
Please note that the last slash is required.

How to run the program:

  1. Type:
    PRIMA
And follow the instructions appeared in the display. Or,
